Journey to the Land of Rising Sun! - Part 3

On our 3rd day in Tokyo, we went to DisneySea! We were very excited as it was the first time we are visiting DisneySea to meet many of our childhood cartoon characters whom we grew up with while watching TV.

Along the way, we bumped into a lady who was taking her son around DisneySea as well. As she was a little lost, we decided to walk around the place together! It was a very fun but tiring experience as we spent the entire day in there!

We went back to our hotel and ate at a Japanese place just opposite the hotel as we were really tired and wanted to sleep early because the 23rd Japan Teddy Bear with Friends  Convention would be held over the next 2 days.

Over the next 2 days, we spent most of our time at the Tokyo International Forum where the Japan Teddy Bear with Friends Convention was held. You can read more about it in our earlier blog post here.

After the convention ended on the 2nd day (our 5th day in Tokyo), we decided to pamper ourselves by going to an Onsen (Japanese Natural Hot Spring). However instead of going to a more traditional onsen, we went to Spa LaQua, a spa in the metropolis of Tokyo that take advantage of natural hot springs bubbling up from 1700 meters below ground.

They even have a resting area for people to sleep! It was so comfortable that we slept for more than 1 hour in there! By the time we woke up, it was pretty late already and we had to quickly change and have our dinner.

By the time we wanted to have dinner, it was already 11pm. Therefore we decided to eat at Jonathan's Coffee & Restaurant,  a 24-hour eating place. The food was good and you can drink whatever you want...... free flow!

After dinner, we went back to our hotel to sleep and get ready for our last 2 days of adventures in Japan.

Anthony the Miniature Squirrel

Dear friends,

We are pleased to introduce a brand new miniature squirrel, Anthony!

It's a real challenge for us to create something so small for the first time! He is just 2.5 inches tall! He looks really tiny and cute!

Anthony is a One-Piece-Design - He has no joints on his head and limbs. He has a pair of magnetic hands, and a magnetic felt acorn is specially made for him to hold on his hands.

Anthony is now available for adoption on Bear Pile:

We hope you can pop by later to view more pictures and read more about him.

Stay tuned for our new creations coming soon! We wish everyone a great weekend!

Journey to the Land of Rising Sun! - Part 2

Rise and shine!

Philip and myself woke up early as we had a long and exciting day ahead! We packed our stuff and went down to have our complimentary breakfast. There were 2 breakfast sets to choose from. The breakfast was nice but this would be our breakfast for the next 5 days! We wished there was more variety but we can't really complain much since it was complementary.

Our first stop for the day was the Yokohama Doll Museum! It is situated in Yokohama and we had to take the subway to Motomachi Chukagai Station, transferring trains in between. It took us about 1 hour to reach the train station and we walked about 600 metres to the Yokohama Doll Museum!

After paying the entrance fee, we went into the museum. We were in awe of the wide array of dolls on display! Home to over 1,300 rare dolls from over 140 countries, it was certainly an eye-opener! Its collection include Dolls of the World, Japanese Dolls, and Friendship Dolls. The Friendship Dolls in particular, were especially interesting as they were dolls exchanged between the Japanese and American schoolchildren in 1927. The primary aim is to foster friendship between the children of the 2 nations.

There were also videos on how Traditional Japanese and Western Dolls were made and it was interesting to see the differences in the process of how both types of dolls were made.

When we finished touring the museum, we went to the Doll Museum shop to have a look at their merchandise. There were many soft toys on display and I couldn't help taking a picture with the gigantic mouse!

As we were in a hurry to get to our next destination, we decided to have a quick lunch at KFC. The fries were extremely crispy and thick, similar to what we have in Mos Burger back in Singapore. The chicken were also slightly saltier than the ones we have back home. After finishing our meals, we took the subway from Ishikawacho Station and alighted at Kamata Station.

Can you guess where our next stop is?? It's a craft shop in Japan called Yuzuwaya! This craft shop is so big, that we could not finish covering the entire place! We thought we covered the entire place, only to realise later on that they have another building selling more craft items next door!

The building that we entered was 6 stories high, and sells a wide range of craft items you can possibly imagine. How I wish there was such a craft shop back in Singapore!

After we have covered the first building, we had to leave for our final destination of the day...... Tokyo One Piece Tower!

On the way back to the subway station, we came across Gindaco which is well known for their Takoyaki! Takoyaki is basically a ball shaped Japanese snack made of wheat-flour based batter, diced octopus, tenkasu, green onions and pickled ginger. They are then brushed with a special sauce and topped with green laver + shavings of dried bonito. Philip decided to purchase 6 pieces to compare with the Gindaco we have back in Singapore. To our pleasant surprise, the taste was similar. The only difference was that they gave more toppings which was great!

We bought the Tokyo One Piece Tower tickets the day before at a 7-Eleven nearby our hotel as we would save ¥200 each from purchasing advance tickets. We were extremely excited as both of us are One Piece fans! When we were reaching the tower, we couldn't help but take a wefie in front of the Tokyo Tower!

We spent about 3 hours touring the whole place. It was a pity though, as most of the shows and words were in Japanese and we were not able to understand fully what was being told or written. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and took many pictures with various One Piece Characters. We also took part in many of the activities which were designed to engage the visitors.
After we were done with the Tokyo One Piece Tower, we settled for dinner at Mos Burger. The burgers were nice but to our greatest surprise and disappointment, the fries were not as good as the ones we had earlier in KFC or in Singapore!

We were pretty tired after spending the whole day out and decided to head back to the hotel after dinner. As we stepped out of the Tokyo Tower, we decided to take another wefie as it looked nice when lit up with lights.

Wow! Before we knew it, 2 days have already passed by in a flash! We were really enjoying ourselves and could not wait for the next day to arrive!

What more exciting adventures awaits........ Stay tuned to find out!

Hugs,
Wayne
