Make-a-Bear Workshop 10 & 17 April 2016

We have another 2-days of wonderful bear-making sessions with 2 students namely Hayley and Myat.

Hayley attended the Fun Fur Day event and it spurred her interest to learn how to make a Teddy Bear.

Both of them were very excited as it was their first time learning to make a Teddy Bear. Wayne started the lesson by sharing with them the importance of observing the pile direction of the fur as it will affect how the bear will turn out when the fur are sewn together.

Wayne taught them the basic techniques to sew a Teddy Bear and some tips to take note when sewing a bear.

Wayne was very thankful for their patience and attentiveness during the lesson.
At the end of the day, both ladies gave their bears a name! The 2 bears were named Caramel and Baby Song.

Both of them showed interest to make another bear soon and we look forward to meeting them again to make another bear!

Margaret Burke's Singapore Adventure 15 & 16 April 2016

We had the pleasure of welcoming Ms Margaret Burke, an Award Winning Bear Artist from Sydney, who came to Singapore for a short 2 nights stay.

On the first day, Wayne and Philip met her at the hotel and brought her to Chinatown. Our first stop was the famous Buddha Relic Tooth Temple, which houses lots of antique Buddha statues and a tooth relic of Buddha. Wayne's parents also came along to meet Margaret. After visiting the temple, we headed to the nearby Chinatown Complex Market and Food Centre for a taste of some local delights!

We had Soya Sauce Chicken Noodles for dinner, it was delicious. The stall is also famous for their succulent char siew and crispy roast pork belly slices but unfortunately they were already sold out in the evening. We also had satay, which is essentially grilled marinated meat on a skewer served with peanut sauce.

After having dinner, we headed to Gardens by the Bay to see the light and sound show at the Supertree Grove. It was enthralling and we were all dazzled by the show.

After the show, we went to Marina Bay Sands for coffee at The Beanstro before we bid good bye and look forward to more adventures that await the next day.

On the second day, Wayne and Philip met Margaret and brought her to Timbre+ which is a new urbanised food hall which offers a diversity of local food fare and restaurant grade food at affordable prices.

At noon, we traveled to Little India and went to Mustafa Centre. After that, we met up with the Singapore Teddy Bear Lovers at City Square Mall. We had yogurt parfaits for dessert at Milk & Honey. Margaret was really excited to meet up with the group and we had a great time chatting and catching up with one another.

We went to Arab Street to explore and had drinks at the Dong Po Coloniel Cafe. After visiting the Children's Little Museum at Bussorah Street, we walked to Bugis+ for dinner at Ramen Champion. It is a unique Japanese Ramen dining concept in which it houses a variety of different ramen store owners who each have their own unique recipes and style of Ramen preparation. It was the first time Margaret had Ramen and she enjoyed it!

All of us enjoyed ourselves playing host and bringing Margaret around Singapore. We hope that she will visit us again soon.

Margaret has kindly agreed to be the judge for our Singapore Teddy Bear Lovers Xmas Bear Competition this year. All of us will use the similar bear pattern from Margaret to make the bear. It will be interesting to see how different everybody's bear will turn out!

Stay tuned for more updates on the Christmas Bear Competition!

Make-A-Bear Workshop with a student from Indonesia

We have a special request this time to personally coach a student, Kus from Indonesia. She is introduced by a friend who makes Teddy Bear as well many years ago.

Although it was Kus first time making a Teddy Bear, she was a fast learner. She was extremely attentive and was able to pick up skills quickly and sew without hesitation.

Wayne shared with her the different techniques to sew and joint the bear. She repeated the steps with Wayne's guidance.

Today, she has finally completed her bear! It took approximately 9 hours for her to complete it and she is very proud of it.

She shared with Wayne that she is going to show the bear to her grand daughter.

Thank you Kus for been so attentive and patience in class, we look forward to meet you again soon.
