Kids Holiday Workshop - Elephant Workshop with Dyan

Wayneston Studios welcomes another young student named Dyan last week!

Dyan is primary six this year, to reward her hard work in school, her lovely mum brought her to Wayneston Studios to make something she likes.

Dyan chose a piece of purple mohair to start her elephant project. It was her very first time sewing and we could see the excitement on her face.

Dyan traced and cut out the pattern on the fabric. Wayne later showed her how to perform basic sewing techniques and very soon she got the hang of it and started sewing by herself.

Her mum, Amanda learnt from Wayne last year has improved tremendously in bear-making. After that workshop she learnt last year, she managed to make another 4 creations by herself! Amanda wants the best for Dyan - that is to learn to appreciate handmade toys and sewing is an essential “life skill” everyone should learn.

After sewing, Dyan stuffed the elephant and Wayne helped her with the closing of the opening. We praised Dyan for her patience as it took her more than 4 hours to complete the elephant.

After the elephant is completed, Wayne took a group photo for them.

We look forward to meeting Amanda and Dyan again soon!

Hugs,
Wayne

Kids Holiday Workshop - Polar Bear Workshop with Alyssa

Wayneston Studios welcomes one of the youngest student, Alyssa, aged 5, for her first bear-making class.

Alyssa decides to make a polar bear. She is free to choose the colours of the nose, eyes and the ribbon on the polar bear, completely customised to her liking.

With Wayne’s instructions, Alyssa first insert the nose onto the bear’s face, then stuff the bear with poly fiber using her tiny fingers. Wayne also introduced her to use a stuffing stick to push the poly fiber in to the hard-to-reach areas.

She also learnt to pour in the plastic pellets using a funnel to fill up the limbs of the bear and it’s belly. Now, it’s Mummy Joan’s turn to stitch up the bear and to add on the finishing touches such as the mouth and claws.

Wayne demonstrated the stitching techniques and tips to sew. Being a first timer and no experience in sewing, Joan is surprised that she is able to do it with minimal help.

After the session, both Joan and Alyssa is happy with bring home a handmade polar bear which they made together. It is indeed a time of good bonding and experience!

We look forward to meeting both again next time!

Cheers,
Wayne

Softie Bear Workshop at NUH!

Wayneston Studios is pleased to be invited to conduct a Softie Teddy Bear Workshop last weekend at National University Hospital (NUH).

This event is organised by the HR department to promote "Learning Festival" where staffs will have fun learning new things.

In total there are 25 participants consisting of adults and children. Our team have so much fun coaching them and sharing with them basic sewing techniques to complete their bear.

This is a wonderful workshop for both parents and children as it's a prefect time for them to work together as a team to complete a bear as their reward.

The children helped to stuff the bear while the parents assisted in sewing the opening when done. Our team also demonstrated "string-jointing" technique on a bear and the well-learnt parents were able to help to attach movable arms onto the bears for their children.

We could see the happy faces of parents and children during the session, this really makes all our hard work paid off!

After the workshop, we took a group photograph together!

We want to take this opportunity to thank NUH staffs and participants for making this event a success! We look forward to work together again in the near future!

Cheers,
Wayneston Studios & Team
